Gautam Gambhir wants RCB to change their captain

The former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir believes it is the time for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to change their captain as Virat Kohli has failed for the eighth consecutive times to clinch the trophy of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kohli, despite taking his team to playoffs or final, is always knocked out struggling to win the trophy but has never been succeeded in his dreamy mission. Gautam has used the examples of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, as their franchises, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) have won three and four IPL titles respectively.

Gautam added that he has nothing in his heart but the captaincy shall be changed as KXIP sacked Ashwin after his two back-to-back failures.

“It’s not only about one year, but it’s also not only about this. I have nothing against Virat Kohli but somewhere down the line, he needs to put his hand up and say, ‘yes, I am responsible, I am accountable’.

“Look at what happened to R Ashwin. After two years of captaincy [for the Kings XI Punjab], he couldn’t deliver and he was removed. We talk about MS Dhoni, we talk about Rohit Sharma, we talk about Virat Kohli… not at all. Dhoni has won three [IPL] titles, Rohit Sharma has won four titles, and that’s the reason they’ve captained for such a long time because they’ve delivered,” he said.

Notably, RCB, after being qualified for the playoffs, played the Eliminator round against the Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH). SRH are scheduled to play qualifier 2 against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and one of them will be featuring in to final with Sharma-led Indians.
