Coronavirus has brought the Earth and its specifications and activities to a standstill. Economies, businesses, sports, and in fact every minor thing has been affected. Cricket, being one of the major and lovable sport, has been influenced adversely due to the lockdown across the globe amid Coronavirus outbreak.

Indian Premier League (IPL) was about to unfold its thirteenth edition. The Coronavirus outbreak flopped every plan sketched for IPL 2020. The season was to be initiated by 29th March 2020. Later, the situations dragged the possibilities ahead to a window of April-May. Coronavirus did not allow it either as the Indian Government extended the lockdown till May 3rd, 2020.

Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), however, still is no mood to go for the definite cancellation. Sourav Ganguly, the president of BCCI in his statements clearly stated that IPL either will be kicked off in a truncated version and behind the closed doors or later normally at the end of the year, but, cancellation isn’t the option by any means.

Recent reports have stated that there will be no T20 league till further notice. Still, there ain’t a complete delay amid lockdown and the 70% sources have declared about the probability of the cash-rich league before the beginning of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020.

“The health and safety of the nation and everyone involved in our great sport remain our top priority and as such, the BCCI along with the franchise owners, broadcaster, sponsors and all the stakeholders acknowledge that the IPL 2020 season will only commence when it is safe and appropriate to do so,” the BCCI said.

“BCCI will continue to monitor and review the situation regarding a potential start date in close partnership with all of its stakeholders and will continue to take guidance from the government of India, state governments and other state regulatory bodies.”

It was also clearly announced that no IPL player will receive his salary until or unless the season begins.
