Pakistan not to support IPL, prefers T20 World Cup instead

The cash-rich league was all set to be commenced by 29th March but it faced many obstacles in its way of scheduling as the lockdown kept on extending and still exists amidst the Coronavirus. Now, there are no comments over the authentic schedule for IPL. Cancelation of the T20 World Cup can be used as an open chance for IPL organizers to hold their cash-rich league’s thirteenth edition.

Many Indians want IPL to take place in full swing in 2020 in place of the ICC T20 World Cup. As the ICC is to hold a meeting to decide the fate of the mega-event, cancelation can work for BCCI to hold their league.

Pakistan not to support IPL, prefers T20 World Cup instead

An official from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clearly maintained that they will not support an idea of holding the Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of the T20 World Cup 2020 in October-November window. He added that as IPL is a domestic season, it can be postponed and shall not be prioritized over ICC’s mega-event, T20 World Cup.

Pakistan is of the view that there is still much time as we are in May so consequently, ICC shall not be rushed in decision making and it can be taken even after two months for World cup’s staging. He said that almost after two months, the position can be known of cricket as opined, the world can soon be out of the pandemic, hence, beginning of cricket can be recorded.

“We are in May and there is still time. The ICC members should wait and see where this Coronavirus pandemic goes. A decision on staging the event can be taken even after say two months. There is no cricket being played right now but in two months’ time we will know what is the position because West Indies and Pakistan are to play in England if things go according to plan,” the official was quoted as saying by News18.

“The IPL is a domestic event of the BCCI and cannot be given preference over ICC events or bilateral agreements. Pakistan will not support any such move,” the source said.
