BCCI not to prioritize IPL over T20 World Cup

The cash-rich league was all set to be commenced by 29th March but it faced many obstacles in its way of scheduling as the lockdown kept on extending and still exists amidst the Coronavirus. Now, there are no comments over the authentic schedule for IPL. Cancelation of the T20 World Cup can be used as an open chance for IPL organizers to hold their cash-rich league’s thirteenth edition.

Many Indians want IPL to take place in full swing in 2020 in place of the ICC T20 World Cup. As the ICC is to hold a meeting to decide the fate of the mega-event, cancelation can work for BCCI to hold their league.

However, Arun Dhumal, the treasurer of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) says that the board won’t be forcing ICC to cancel the World Cup to commence ahead of the cash-rich league.

BCCI treasurer: Board will not suggest postponing World Cup for IPL

“Why should the BCCI suggest postponing the Twenty20 World Cup? We’ll discuss it in the meeting and whatever is appropriate, (the ICC) will take a call,” Dhumal told Reuters.

“It all depends on what the Australian government says on this – whether they’d allow so may team to come and play the tournament. Will it make sense to play games without spectators? Will it make sense for CA to stage such a tournament like that? It’s their call,” he added.

The ICC T20 World Cup, that till now is expected to be commenced by 18th October, can face obstacles in its ways as the lockdown and flights in Australia are still not running with the flow. The Indian authorities will probably look for the window in case if the mega-events get shifted to the next year.
