At first, the Indian Premier League (IPL) was to be commenced by 29th march. Due to the lockdown, it moved ahead to 15th April and then to a further window of April-March. With a later extension in lockdown, the tournament got delayed further until any official vote from the authorities indefinitely.

As the Coronavirus situations in some countries are getting better slowly, there can be a good chance to organize the Indian cash-rich league but cancelation of the ICC T20 World Cup shall be on the card.

The former Indan cricketer, Anshuman Gaekwad, believes that IPL can only be possible if the ICC organizers think of canceling the T20 World Cup.

He thinks that cancelation of the T20 World Cup can work as an opportunity for the league to go ahead or else it cannot be played. According to Anshuman, cricket can be resumed after three-four months, not before that, and cricketers will suffer a new experience if the game resumes amidst the Coronavirus situation; playing behind closed doors.

“If the World Cup gets canceled or postponed, then only IPL can happen but then also it depends on what the conditions are in India,” he stated.

“I have my doubts that T20 WC will be held this year. About IPL, we cannot think of just now. It will depend on Indian conditions and the window is only during this T20 WC which is October-November,” Gaekwad was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).

“Cricket is not going to be the same, the approach would be different. There will be no crowd in the stadiums. Cricketers are not used to playing in empty stadiums. It will be one very difficult aspect of playing a new type of cricket,” he added.

“It may take another two months or four months or more to resume cricket,” Gaekwad added.
