IPL 2020: BCCI and franchises make a revenue of INR 4000 Crore

The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has recently been ending gifting the trophy to the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the fifth time. As the Coronavirus outbreak halted sports activities across the globe, IPL faced several cancelations as well.

Finally, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to move it to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following India’s COVID-19 situation. As there were no spectators to watch matches from the ground, the number of people watching from their homes from televisions were much higher as compared to the other versions of IPL.

The treasurer of the BCCI, Arun Dhumal revealed the amount and said that if there was no IPL, cricketers would have lost a year. Also, the amount has been cut short to 35% as compared to IPL 2019. On one hand, the broadcasting channels have helped out to grow the revenue by 25%.

“The Board managed to cut nearly 35 percent of the cost as compared to the last IPL. We earned Rs 4,000 crore during the pandemic time. Our TV viewership went about 25 percent higher, we got the highest-ever opening game (Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings) viewership. Those who doubted us came and thanked us for hosting the IPL. Had this IPL not happened, cricketers would have lost one year,” BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said as quoted by the Indian Express.
