Should Rishabh Pant take over MS Dhoni in Indian Cricket Team

After the topic of MS Dhoni’s retirement was frenzied for more than a year, the veteran took retirement and it was shocking to hear the news on the day suddenly. As the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going in a full-fledge, Dhoni and his franchise, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are yet to impress the masses as they have won two out of five games being three times IPL winner.

Rishabh Pant of Delhi capitals,  on the other hand, who has emerged as a vital left-handed batsman in mid-overs, is impressing the masses. Two former Indian cricketers, Sanjay Bangar and Ashish Nehra believe that Pant shall be prioritized over Dhoni in international cricket.

Should Rishabh Pant take over MS Dhoni in Indian Cricket Team?

“In terms of wicket-keeping, I think it would be Rishabh Pant. I think the way he started this year’s IPL and I think it is very important to have a left-hander as an option because for Team India when it comes to the middle order it helps to balance out the right-handers,” Bangar said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Supporting Bangar’s point of view, the former Indian cricketer, Ashish Nehra, also believes that Pant shall be backed in taking over the reins from Dhoni in international cricket.

“It totally depends on which format we are talking about. If we are talking about Test cricket, and if you want to go with the best wicketkeeper then you also have to consider the mindset of the captain and coach. I am in total agreement with Sanjay Bangar, I think they should go ahead with Rishabh Pant. Pant should be backed! Every player needs to be backed when it comes to international cricket,” Nehra said.
