Eoin Morgan: I would be surprised if T20 World Cup happens

According to the existing schedule, the World Cup is likely to be commenced by 18th October. However, the news is saying that ICC is to hold a meeting on 28th May to decide the fate of the ICC T20 World Cup which is most likely to get canceled because the situation doesn’t look to be in favor as the number of cases caused by the Coronavirus is rising day by day.

During the lockdown, no cricket activities are being commenced on. Whether the leagues, tournaments, tours, or the series, all the scenarios have badly been interrupted. All the cancellations might also cause negative in financial terms to the relevant boards

Eoin Morgan, the World Cup 2019 winning captain, says that it will be astonishing to see if the T20 World Cup goes ahead even amidst the worst health scenarios.

Eoin Morgan: I would be surprised if T20 World Cup happens

“I’d be surprised if it goes ahead,” said Morgan. “My reasons for that would be if you look at how Australia have handled the pandemic, they’ve shut down the borders pretty early, had a limited number of cases and deaths in comparison to the rest of the world,” he added.

Recently, Eoin Morgan also opined about Alex Hales’ comeback in England Cricket Team and thinks that it will require a little more time.

“Alex is in a unique position, probably in a position nobody else has found themselves in before,” Morgan was quoted as saying in Belfast Telegraph.

“On the cusp of a World Cup, the huge breakdown in trust between him and the players was extremely dramatic, given the circumstances surrounding the four years and the build-up and the way things unfolded.

“I’ve spoken to Alex and certainly see an avenue for him to come back to playing cricket but like in life and in any sport, when there’s a breakdown of trust, the only healer in that is time,” Morgan mentioned.

“It’s only been 12 or 13 months since the incident which could have cost us four years of hard work. Given it could have derailed a World Cup campaign, I think it might take some more time, yes,” he added.
