Roshan Abeysinghe, the former player of Sri Lanka and the current name form the commentary panel, thinks that Umar Akmal could have been one of the finest players among Pakistan.
The commentator has grieved sorrow over Umar Akmal’s ban and has revealed that he still considers him as a talent and will be considered in the future as well.
Abeysinghe thinks Umar possesses such a talent that he has the potential to surpass India’s Kohli even.
“I thought he would break a lot of records for Pakistan. I thought he was good as any young batsman and could have been Pakistan’s answer to Virat Kohli,” Abeysinghe is seen as saying in a video posted on Twitter.
“He is very talented and it is very unfortunate that a career which should have gone upwards has gone in a different direction. Personally I rate him very highly and will continue to rate him very highly,” Abeysinghe added.

Umar Akmal’s past is full of disciplinary issues. He has found himself under hot waters several times. He was involved in partying at clubs, misbehave with the coach, blames on the coach, harsh driving, sent home during Champions Trophy 2017, misbehave with the foreign trainee, failure to submit charges against him, and breach code of conduct of PCB.
On the first day of the Pakistan Super League, when the batsman was to represent Quetta Gladiators but got eliminated from the squad by PCB after the management found something irrelevant from his phone. However, the matter was not disclosed by the board and a few months later, in April, the board has denounced to ban Umar from all forms of the game. He will be eligible to play once again on 20th February 2023.
